The 1990s were a very good decade as far as American economic growth was concerned.
On the eve of the recession of 2001, Americans' household incomes stood at their highest level ever.
The median white non-Hispanic household had an annual income $5,900 more than their counterparts at the start of the decade.
The median Hispanic household had an annual income $4,700 more than their counterparts at the beginning of the decade.
The median African-American household had an annual income $7,000 more than their counterparts at the start of the decade.
Nevertheless, the measured real income of the median African-American household is still only at the level of the median white household in 1967.
