J. Micah Marshall Says the Bush Administration's Dog Eats Homework

J. Micah Marshall bangs his head against the wall as he contemplates the... circular firing squad that is Bush Administration diplomacy:

Talking Points Memo: by Joshua Micah Marshall: The more I think about this Turkish rejection of US troops the bigger a deal it looks like.

Perhaps it can be salvaged next week, though that seems unclear. But if you want some evidence of this administration's diplomatic incompetence, consider this. We publicly sold out the Kurds to get this deal. We really should have made sure we had a deal before we tipped our hands to the Kurds about the price we were willing to pay for it.

Now we have no deal and no Kurds. I don't think we should have sold out the Kurds regardless. But if we were going to do so we should have been clearer with ourselves about who we were in bed with, the Turks or the Kurds.

The administration has a stiff wind of anti-anti-Americanism at its back which has thus far allowed it to weather each of these storms. Every one of the administration's diplomatic debacles is the fault, not of the administration, but of our conniving friends: the Germans, the French, the Turks, the Canadians, Gerhard Schroder, Noam Chomsky, Bono, Elmo, you name it. (The dog ate my homework, and so forth.) But the list of #$&@-ups is really becoming mind-boggingly long.

Your point is well taken about the incompetency of the administration's mishandling of things, but, please, let's not even be in the position of selling out people. We're not talking about computer generated figures in a war game, Kurds are real human beings, and the U.S. has sold them out before, to use such terminology.

The point is you are not in bed with with Turks. Turkey is not americas whore. The military establishment of Turkey already declared that an attempt by any nation to try and form a Kurdish nation separate from in the north is a declaration of war against Turkey. The Turks are not to be confused with Saddam because they do not bullshit. Yes you sold Kurds and tried to buy Turks forgetting all along that you do not have enough gold in your Fort Knox to buy a nation of people with a history back to the mongolian steppes. We will go into northern iraq if the kurdish state becomes a real option. The question is will America fire against its 50 year old ally in the nato. I will be there and I think you should defend Kurds if you are coming for the fight. We know what terrorism does to a nation because we lost more than 30.000 people to kurdish terror. If we have to we will die again but there will never be a reality as a kurdish puppet nation with nothing but oil wells in it. Israel is enough. So, you should ask yourself these questions: Are we determined enough to protect Kurds? Are we ready to die for them? Because that is where your administration is taking you my friend.
