Me (opens refrigerator): Maranatha organic peanut butter? "Holy Lord! Come!" organic peanut butter? Seems an awfully extravagant sentiment for peanut butter...
UPDATE: The children have informed me that peanut butter is indeed Holy: it is one of the four foods that can be added to make anything taste better. (The other three are sugar, salt, and ketchup.)

Might be an appropriate name, considering that peanut allergy is the most commonly fatal food allergy.
Posted by: Jon H on May 22, 2003 01:02 PMWell, maybe not, but I could make a case for Maranatha pistachio butter.
It does make the supreme being sound like a member of the bus staff in a college town restaurant, though.
Posted by: julia on May 22, 2003 04:54 PMOh, heavens. I hope your children are still young, so the possibility remains that you may yet wean them from ketchup. Nothing saddens me more than watching an otherwise normal adult ruin a perfectly good meal with that infernal condiment.
Posted by: T. Whalen on May 22, 2003 10:05 PMFor ketchup, read "maple syrup". And wine - you can't spoil any recipe by adding wine to it (with the possible exception of omelette).
Posted by: Hugh on May 23, 2003 05:58 AMYour kids -- as in so many other matters -- are precocious in their universal embrace of peanut butter. I did not come to realize the virtues of PB until my college years; as I recall the realization was helped along by a parallel realization of the virtues of marijuana.
Posted by: Jeremy Osner on May 23, 2003 08:04 AMIf my wife ever gets pregnant again--buy peanut butter stock. Lots.
In that condition, she would agree with your kids.

Ketchup = sugar + salt
so it doesn't count
