An Ode to White Flesh Nectarines
I bought some yesterday, but they are not ripe yet.

Nectarines are amazingly tasty, but the sticky juice can get everywhere and the middle is just annoying. Now, seedless grapes on the other hand are the perfect fruit.

Posted by: Kevin Drum on July 20, 2003 04:33 PMI found some excellent peaches at the Berkeley Farmers' Market last Tuesday. I'm not knocking nectarines or grapes, but peaches at their best have a sweetness, delicacy, refinement and charm that can't be matched, at least not in the vegetable kingdom.

Ripe peaches are easily the best; nectarines are a testimony to how mass marketing (maximize appearance and sweetness at all costs!) degrades the products of nature.
