Well, I can no longer claim that I have never felt an earthquake. Magnitude 3, epicenter about 4 miles south-south-west, at 10:16 PM PDT.

So some gnarly magnitude 3 P waves in the Alamo Burbclave got your attention? That is so bogus dude. Like, you still haven't felt an earthquake. I've been in a 6.5, and with 65 dead, that was a mere blip compared to what we're going to get hit with.
Posted by: jerry on October 10, 2003 11:45 PMI don't know which I find harder to believe, that a long-term California resident has never felt an earthquake, or that someone actually felt a magnitude 3.
I remember a day when our company was negotiating a new contract with our biggest international customer. A magnitude 5 hit - enough to rattle windows and knock cans off shelves in grocery stores - but our guests, being Japanese, didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary.
Posted by: bad Jim on October 11, 2003 12:15 AMNeat. I live over the hills, in Berkeley. I read it was a 3.1...didn't feel it, though. I hope to experience one someday (with all the caveats about not wishing collapsing concrete horror or fiery death upon anyone, of course).
Posted by: andrew on October 11, 2003 01:01 AMYou mean I've been avoiding California out of fear of the Big One all these years and all you get is a measly 3.0? Even in the UK, the world's safest place (no hurricanes, essentially no tornados, no volcanos, minimal earthquakes, no dangerous animals) we had a 4.8 this time last year. Though I have to say it did feel like the world was going to end.
Posted by: Nasi Lemak on October 11, 2003 04:45 AMThis is obviously God's retribution to Californians for electing a women groping Nazi govenor.
Posted by: harv on October 11, 2003 05:49 AMNote the key word felt. Brad slept though a bigger earthquake in Boston once (or so he claims)
