OK, here's my opening to waste time on one of the campaign trivialities.

What exactly is the "Kerry looks French" meme about? He looks like no French stereotype I'm aware of (e.g. the beret and striped shirt wearing baguette carrying *short* Frenchman). He doesn't look anything like Jacques Chirac (who it seems is fairly tall) and he doesn't look like any French person I know personally. Kerry's frame is a little like De Gaulle's butDe Gaulle is about as far from the "surrender monkey" slur as it gets.

I wonder if Bushies actually know what they mean by "Kerry looks French" or if is an entirely fatuous remark (like a schoolyard taunt) Any guesses?

Kerry looks "French" because he's an American guy that is not fat.

I've always thought he looks British. (Especially older pictures, where he looks like a 4 weddings era Hugh Grant)

A google on "doesn't look french" (in quotes) along with "kerry" turned up this discussion board from back in February, when all the (pro-Kerry) posters there were as mystified as I am about what "Kerry looks French" is supposed to mean:

If he's repudiated that I'll reconsider.
