Yes, I remember hunting it down many years ago because I loved Prisoner of Zenda as a teenager. And the sequel was rather depressing. But it's cool to hear of it again.

Wow, I thought I was the only person ever to read the sequel, on a very dusty shelf of the Chevy Chase Branch Library. So much for happy endings. And no wonder Hollywood keeps doing increasingly wretched remakes to the movie… instead of the sequel.

I think Graustarkian, named for the mythical mittel-European kingdom of Graustark, refers to an entire family of stories set in a sort of 19th-20th century never never land of stories set in as yet untouched portions of eastern Europe. McCutcheon sort of defined the genre and did a damned good job of it.
