Yesterday (September 30) in the Shrillblog

It was, all in all, an amazingly shrill day--and that was before people watching the debate began to be driven into shrill unholy madness by Bush's debate claims.

Mark Kleiman Breaks the Shrill Barrier: "How much longer is this severely delusional character going to remain in power?

The Taliban No Longer Exists... But Karzai Must Propitiate It Anyway...: It is remarkable, is it not? A religio-military-political force no longer exists, yet our Afghan president must still carefully propitiate it.

The Numbers From Our Membership Drive Are In: Pretty Much Anyone Who Is Neither A) Completely Clueless And B) Lying To Your Face Is Shrill: the US intelligence apparatus, there is a growing belief that "[the Bush Administration's policy in Iraq is] a disaster, and they're digging the hole deeper and deeper and deeper. ... There's no obvious way to fix it. The best we can hope for is a semi-failed state hobbling along with terrorists and a succession of weak governments."

Objective Reality Is Shrill And Unbalanced: To read today's Wall Street Journal editorial page you'd think the CIA was trying to undermine the Bush administration CIA-style. Bugging BC04 campaign offices and giving the tapes to the DNC, arranging secret transfers of money to the Kerry campaign, engaging in select assassinations of key Republican figures, etc. In fact what they're doing is making factual claims about the situation in Iraq to members of the press.

Wall Street Journal Reporter Farnaz Fassihi Modems in From Baghdad: Yes, she is a member of the Order of the Shrill

Shrillblog: Peeling the Onion: "Factual data presented in these publications indicates that Bush took little or no action on issues as widely varied as the stalled economy, increasing violence in post-war Iraq, and the lagging public education system," Rocklin said. "The newsprint documents also reveal huge disparities between the ways Bush claimed to have served Medicare patients, and what he actually did."

It was a beautiful bluesky day, golden sun, that cool heat and cinnamon scent in the still air, barely a sound as brown-curled leaves high in the trees dropped off silently, one by one, and pirouetted to dew-drenched grass, strewn with gossamer spider silk. A great day to be alive.

Debates? Turn off the TV! The US media is owned by six gigantic inhuman corporations. There's nothing new there. Our US government is run by fanatics, hacks and shills. Nothing new there.

Every day spent outside under the warm sun is wholely new. Turn off your PC and live a little.

Worth investigating: How did Alfred E. Neuman manage to fool people into finally electing him President of the United States? Alfred E. Neuman for another term as President?

I hope Kerry can carry it off.

I agree with Tante Aime's suggestion to "Turn off the TV!" I would like to add that polls are only fabrications and propaganda tools and therefore shouldn't be believed.

> fool people into finally electing him President of the United States?

I will never forget the story about the Harvard B School prof who was joking (half joking?) about the possibility that some member of the class might become president someday. Everybody knew the prof was refering to GWB. So Dubya raised his hands giving the V sign the way Nixon used to. Even back then, the Machine knew GWB was probably going to run for prez someday. So regardless of how foolish many people sound, I suspect their attitude is more willful ignorance than having been duped. They do what they are told. So how many BananaRepublicans does it take to change a light bulb? None. They want to stay in the dark and I am going nuts trying to figure out why.

Will somebody tell the DNC to unleash Edwards and tell him to kick Cheney's ass next Tuesday?

An observation:

The left seems very satisfied that Kerry won the debate.

But we are advancing the story of the mistakes Bush made well enough.

The lies are in some cases arguable, but Bush said that the country cannot afford to fund firefighters, to inspect ships coming into ports or packages shipped in cargo holds of commercial airliners.

We can't afford it.

Supporters of Kerry have to make sure the story of the debate is not "Global Test" and smirking when the other guy is talking.

By recognizing a favorable opinion of yourself, and taking pleasure in it, you in a measure give yourself and your peace of mind into the keeping of another, of whose attitude you can never be certain.
