Why does Cheney like George Soros so much?

Mark A. R. Kleiman:: Screw-up of the evening: Cheney tried to give out the URL to Annenberg's factcheck.org, but said "factcheck.com". http://www.factcheck.com now sends you straight to George Soros' site, which has a big article entitled "Why We Should Not Elect George Bush."... The real factcheck.org says: "[W]e did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right." Overall, the article is pretty fair, noting many of Cheney's massive whoppers while pretty much clearing Edwards, except on ticky-tack stuff (except regarding the Bush administration trying to cut combat pay - is this just BS?).

This is actually a one-two punch to the gut.

It's got a great story and would make for an interesting little tidbit in one of those little differently colored media boxes you see in magazines and newspapers (is that what is called a sidebar? I'm not a journalist.)

But the important thing is the second bit.

The interesting story angle is the first bit. The wrong website, and get this, it's georgesoros.com. That's the setup.

But the meme to push is the second kicker: And get this, on the front page is an article showing that Edwards was right!

Even the evidence Cheney cites is against him.

Maybe I should get an account at kos?

Here's yet ANOTHER CHENEY LIE:

"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session."

--Dick Cheney

So how many times did he preside over the Senate in the last 3-4 years? 2

I said Two

The answer is: Twice.

I think when we're through fact-checking Cheny's ass we're going to find that every single last word he uttered that night was a lie. Including, "and," "if," and "but."

FactCheck.org has been down all day, hasn't it?

I had actually written their editor a few weeks ago, claiming their defense of Halliburton was wrong-headed.

See, there was a small, rag-tag outfit that had put out the oil fires after the first Iraq War, an outfit which had been bought out by KB&R (Kick Back and Relax?), but absolutely _none_ of the employees who worked there for the oil fields fire put out were still working there when the Bush administration gave Halliburton the 7 billion dollar no bid contract.

I'm afraid, per usual, I wasn't understood.

Josh

Could you give some more info about that. Because one argument I kept hearing from the wingnuts around the time of Halliburton's first no-bid contract was that only they had the relevant expertize in putting out oil-well fires. I thought this was probably Bullshit at the time but I never saw anything following that up.

CHENEY:

"They're putting their necks on the line..."

When Cheney attacked Edwards for saying America is taking 90% of combat fatalities.

Cheney ripped in with this attack about forgetting about the Iraqi losses.

First off, this is a US presidential election, and the issue at hand is combat losses in Iraq that affect the pysche of the nation (same as with Vietnam war, so the issue of US soldiers dying for "good" or "bad" cause is of upmost importance, otherwise, we would let the UN decide when Americans would fight & die, and Cheney is dead-set against that.

We put their necks on the line with the president's bad judgement ("They're putting their necks on the line... because we invaded their country. Ask the dead Iraqi children if they requested to be dead, or was it US policy to advent a pre-revolution quagmire that makes Vietnam look like "The Falklands" crises.
Goodbye

Arms and the Man had some really good articles on the small fire-putting-out company back when the contract was first in the news; they must be in the archives at: http://majorbarbara.blogspot.com/

The oil fire company was basically Red Adair who sold the company when he retired. He died recently. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3546526.stm
