I was late to graduation this afternoon.
Rather than sneak in late, and tiptoe across the stage in front of everybody to my place, I went back to my office, figuring I would join the crowd at the post-ceremony reception.
I did so, and at the reception everybody I talked to looked at me and said, "You weren't at the ceremony."
Why were they all so certain? It's the robe. The Harvard robe from the mid-1980s. The robe that is mislabeled "crimson" but that actually is a color usually referred to as "hot pink." Visually, it stands out in a crowd. (Ron Lee had a Harvard robe too, but his is an earlier robe that is actually crimson, and so did not make the same impact.

You must wear the robes to the reception too? That may be the problem. Any clothing from the 80's must always be accompanied by a "big hair" hairdo.
