I Want to Rend Verizon's Software Limb From Limb

I want to rend Verizon's software limb from limb and scatter its broken bits across a spacelike interval of twelve light-hours.

Phone messages my wife leaves for me on Wednesday should *not* first show up in my inbox the following Monday.

That is all.

Sounds like the title to a Whitman poem.

I thought you were having trouble with Sprint earlier. Perhaps that was somebody else. Oddly, I never had such problems with AT&T but I'm ditching them anyway ... because they're evil and lousy.

Are you sure the software is at fault and not the service provider?

I've seen periodic delays in email delivery like that where the fault is that of a (well-known) service provider since the software is a constant.

As such a huge proponent of offshoring, you above all others should appreciate routing a call through India. The Asian markets were down pretty hard yesterday so your call message was delayed.

Yesterday SBC Yahoo sent me a message that my mail account was overdrawn. I was using -2048MB(yes, that is a minus sign) out of an allowed 6.9MB. Due to the overdraft my service was to be shutoff. Then today they said they had improved my service!!!!
Way To Go Guys. Looks like Gmail will eat their lunch.

Please don't stop with the software problem. I won't be happy until Verizon is exiled to universe which is run as badly as Verizon runs its company. Is it used in B-Schools as an example of corporate decline?

I empathize more completely than you could possibly know. Not only have I had precisely the same problem, I now have the situation where calls go directly to the mailbox even when the phone is turned on. Seeing my main reason for having the phone is to keep lines of communication open during computer use, this is a huge failing.

Wait till you try to get them to fix things. My wife spent two hours with them a week or so back, after which they promised to call with a solution. No call. So, yesterday, I spent 45 minutes with them. They finally opted to bring in a technical support specilaits -- who promptly disconnected us.

I can't imagine that they're worse than Nextell. At my office, we speak of having a "Nextell moment" in stead of the more common "brain fart" or what have you.

Verizon knows who they are.

5 years ago, they took out verizonsucks.com to protect themselves.

Someone took out verizonREALLYsucks.com, and got a nastygram from their lawyers.

As a Verizon customer and a Verizon stockholder (legacy from grandgranddad who worked almost 70 years for MaBell), I've been trying to figure out how to reconcile my annoyance and my profits. It seems to me that any company as annoying and expensive as Verizon would eventually suffer in share price, and I've been trying rather lacksaidaisically (sp) to sell it off. But then, since I live in a Verizon-dominated area, I'm also wondering whether Verizon is actually worse than the rest of them--whether selling it off out of annoyance isn't like storming and burning the local seigneurial castle. I don't have that many shares, certainly not enough to be noticeable by the company, but in general I don't like to support companies that are civic nuisances. Any views?

I think we're approaching some defining moment. Our local daily, in a conservative small midwestern city, had a story titled
"Your Wireless Company Knows You Hate It"

Of course, it did not add "and they don't care," but the revolt has to start somewhere.

Brad, welcome to the modern American economy, where the people who know enough to get the job done right have been laid off. Your level of service is comparable to the expertise of those who are earning, and capable of, much less.

Dubblblind, "the people who know enough to get the job done right have been laid off." Hmmm...sounds like the Bush administration: Gen. Shinseki, Dick Clarke, Paul O'Neill.

Here we are in the nirvana of a deregulated market, and we still get "We're the phone company...we don't care. We don't have to."

Verizon are sleaze. This is not news.

Just remember, they're making a profit of around 800% on cellphone service. (No, I don't know that for certain. However, what I do know is that the capital investment in a local cell network is a fraction of that in a local wireline network. Somehow this does not translate into reduced prices.)

We're an oligarch. We don't care.
