Longtemps, Je Me Suis Couché de Bonne Heure...

We are eating madeleines from the Sugar Bowl Bakery in San Francisco. Delicious.

They are too crisp and not very authentic. Try the DonSueMor (available at Trader Joe's, but a tad expensive), or the wonderful ones by Miette Bakery (SF Ferry Building food court) and the many Bay Bread boulangeries like the one on Polk @ Green.

Of course, this would not be the Sugar Bowl donut shop near the Balboa Theatre out in the Sunset. The Sugar Bowl shop that boasts numerous CA lottery winners. No madeleines there.

le souvenir d'une certaine image n'est que le regret d'un certain instant; et les maisons, les routes, les avenues, sont fugitives, hélas! comme les années.

Balboa Theatre is in the Richmond. It is one of their stores.

"They are too crisp ..."

But for full effect, my remembrance is that they should be dipped in tea.

Worse than that--a spoonful of tea with some crumbs in it. The shock of a straight madeleine would've sent Marcel into l'hôpital.

Heard that one before. Can't quite recall where though. Maybe it'll come to me after a snack to get my sugar levels up.

Proust, les madeleines, seriez-vous francophile Mr Bradford Delong?
Vous avez en tout cas très bon goût.

You do realize that they thoughtfully decided to locate a Sugar Bowl Bakery right in Berkeley, on 5th Street?
