Grownup Republican Watch: Danforth Resigns

He lasts five months:

Political Wire: Danforth Resigns: John Danforth, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, has resigned, according to Reuters. Danforth has only held the office since July 1, 2004, when he succeeded John Negroponte, who now serves as the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.

Now that anyone with any practical experience, extra-administration knowhow, or personal integrity seems to have left this administration, what might be in store for us in the next 4 years could be rather frightening.

I went out on a limb over at my site and projected Danforth for SCOTUS nominee.

Didn't Danforth tell a (German?) reporter recently that he'd certainly welcome a call from the President regarding a cabinet post? Or was that some other former GOP office holder? The cabinet shuffle has gone pretty fast, and those who were "serving at the president's pleasure" till the names were all announced can stop hoping and quit.

Here in Missouri the contrast between the two Danforths never ceases to amaze. The former senator and AG needs no comment; John (Jack) is a principled and decent man. I've never heard an explanation of the difference.

Of course. That was the deal. Bush couldn't have appointed Wolfowitz as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations before the election, now could he?

That doesn't seem much of a limb, pw. We'll know if bakho is correct if Norm Coleman is named his successor.

Warscheinlich war Herr Danforth nicht genug partei- und fühertreu.

Didn't Danforth shepherd Clarence Thomas through the Supreme Court nominating process? Now there is a gift that keeps on giving.
